Welcome to Jr. High Social Studies! The goal is to teach your student the importance of
exploration, discovery, inquiry, and discussion in the studies of history and social studies.
What is Social Studies?
Social studies is the study of social behavior of human social groups in a
community. In Social Studies we will be learning about many of the following
topics: History, Government, Economics, Civics, Sociology, Geography, and
Anthropology.
Reading
Students in 6th grade will be studying from the book History Alive! The Ancient
World and additional resources.
Students in 7th and 8th grade will be utilizing History Alive! The United States
Through Industrialization and additional resources.
How does this apply to my student?
Self Assessment questions for the topics in Social Studies will be
available on Google Classroom.
Interdisciplinary Skills and Studies
Many of the topics and practices we will be studying in ELAR will overlap in our
study of Social Studies, History, Religion, Math, Science, and Spanish.
Collaboration with Mrs. Noyola and Mrs. Figueroa will be a common occurrence
during our learning and instruction times, both in class and after school.
